WASHINGTON Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) announced that the Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Agency (MARTA) will be awarded a $25 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Bus and Bus Facilities Program.

The funds will support completion of a 2,500 square foot transit hub to be built adjacent to The Gallery at South DeKalb. The hub will provide riders with a safe and covered space to catch and transfer buses and purchase fares with park and ride availability. Congresswoman Williams requested the funds in a letter of support sent to the Federal Transit Administration earlier this year.

Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) said:

“I am proud to support this $25 million federal investment in safety and accessibility for MARTA riders in South DeKalb. This funding, made possible by President Biden’s historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, underscores our commitment to advancing transit equity. In partnership with our transit leaders, we will  continue building stronger connections to jobs and economic opportunity for everyone—no matter your ZIP Code, no matter your bank account.”

Collie Greenwood, MARTA General Manager and CEO said:

“We are thrilled to receive the full grant amount requested and grateful to the FTA for recognizing the need for this important transit hub,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood. “This grant covers almost 70 percent of the funding for this project and supports the improvement of bus facilities and amenities and workforce development in DeKalb.”

The Bus and Bus Facilities grant program was established under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2021. The program supports local efforts to buy or modernize buses, improve bus facilities, and support workforce development. $390 million was made available nationally through the competitive grant.
