Congresswoman Nikema Williams Announces Over $53 Million in COVID-19 Relief to Save Fifth District Venues and Jobs
ATLANTA – Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) announced 70 venues in Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District have received $53,607,406 in Shuttered Venue Operators Grants (SVOG). Congresswoman Williams voted for the American Rescue Plan, which included $16 billion for the program. The SVOG provides support to hard-hit businesses in the music and entertainment sector that were forced to shut their doors due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
“The American Rescue Plan and the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program are delivering critical resources for the people,” said Congresswoman Williams. “The venues receiving these grants are iconic parts of the Fifth District. These businesses employ thousands of people and make the Fifth District a rich cultural hub. Keeping these businesses afloat is an important part of House Democrats and the Biden-Harris’ administration work to Build Back Better.”
