Congresswoman Nikema Williams Calls for the Preservation of the Peachtree Summit Federal Building
WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) wrote a letter to Acting Administrator Stephen Ehikian of the General Services Administration to express concern about the inclusion of the Peachtree Summit Federal Building on the agency’s list of assets identified for “accelerated disposition.” The Peachtree Summit Building, located at 401 W. Peachtree St., N.W., Atlanta, GA 30308, is a key fixture of employment, transportation, and federal services in Georgia’s Fifth District.
Congresswoman Nikema Williams wrote:
“Peachtree Summit Federal Building houses critical agencies including the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Social Security Administration (SSA), and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Many of my constituents rely on the services of these agencies to obtain their benefits. This is especially important today, where inflation and the cost of living are rapidly skyrocketing and constituents need their tax returns and Social Security payments to make ends meet. The model public servants who work at these agencies help constituents with these services, often working with my district office to provide critical customer service.
For 50 years, the Peachtree Summit Federal Building has served the Atlanta community while centralizing critical government functions in the heart of downtown Atlanta. Its direct connection to the Civic Center MARTA station enhances accessibility, linking it seamlessly to the City’s public transit network. This connectivity, coupled with its workforce, boosts the local economy by driving foot traffic to nearby businesses. The value of its government tenancy is critical, and without it, the building’s market worth would plummet, highlighting the building’s economic anchor role.”
