Congresswoman Nikema Williams Celebrates the Release of Wrongly Detained Georgian by Taliban
WASHINGTON– Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) celebrates the long awaited release of George Glezmann after two and half years in Taliban detention. An Atlanta resident and American citizen, George was taken hostage by the Taliban in Afghanistan in December 2022 and declared wrongfully detained by Secretary Blinken in September 2023.
The Congresswoman released the following statement via Bluesky:

In 2024, Congresswoman Williams introduced a resolution to Congress calling for the release of George Glezmann and led a bicameral letter with members of the Georgia delegation urging the Administration to secure George’s freedom. George’s wife, Aleksandra Salukvadze, has been a tireless advocate on his behalf, and Congresswoman Nikema Williams has been in touch with the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs (SPEHA) in efforts to bring George home.
Congresswoman Williams is grateful for his release and elated to know George will be reunited with his wife, Aleksandra, and his family.
