Congresswoman Nikema Williams Introduces Amendments in Congressional Rules Committee to Republicans’ Tax Scam Bill
WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) offered 16 amendments to Republicans’ tax scam bill following a long night on Capitol Hill. Republicans scheduled a Rules Committee meeting starting at 1 AM this morning to hide their budget bill from the American people.
Congresswoman Nikema Williams introduced the following amendments:
- Affirming that no funds in the bill may be used to violate the law that allows members to conduct oversight at ICE facilities
- Striking an at-will employment provision for federal workers and inserting the SERVICE Act
- Striking a government reporting provision and inserting the REPORTS Act
- Barring any federal settlement funds from going to anyone convicted of a January 6th insurrection-related crime
- Adding a new section in SNAP to allow the deduction of the cost of menstrual products from income for eligibility purposes
- Adding a new section in SNAP to allow the deduction of the cost of maternal healthcare services from income for eligibility purposes
- Adding a provision barring the Department of Commerce from purchasing commercial AI systems that any government employee or special government employee has an ownership stake of more than 5%
- Preventing immigration enforcement funds in the bill from being used for an illegal removal
- Adding a provision barring the Department of Health and Human Services from purchasing commercial AI systems that any government employee or special government employee has an ownership stake of more than 5%
- Exempting people who live in broadband deserts from a provision disallowing the deduction of internet costs from SNAP eligibility income calculation
- Requiring the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to stay independent of the President
- Investing in programs to increase our housing supply and lower housing costs
- Strikes provisions that repeal investments in sustainable aviation fuel
- Replacing defunding of Planned Parenthood with defunding of crisis pregnancy centers
- Preventing security funds from going to President Trump’s pockets
- Striking cuts to nutrition assistance and adding the OHH SNAP Act to the bill
