Congresswoman Nikema Williams Introduces Resolution Celebrating the Life and Legacy of President Jimmy Carter on His 100th Birthday
Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) today introduced a House resolution honoring the life, achievements, and public service of former President Jimmy Carter on the occasion of his 100th birthday. The resolution, co-led by Representatives Sanford Bishop (GA-02) and Buddy Carter (GA-01), recognizes President Carter’s numerous contributions to the State of Georgia, the United States, and the world.
The resolution highlights key moments from President Carter’s extraordinary life, including his early years growing up on a farm in Plains, Georgia, and his dedicated service in the U.S. Navy. It also acknowledges his time as Georgia’s 76th Governor, where he modernized state government and advanced civil rights.
Congresswoman Nikeam Williams (GA-05) said:
“President Jimmy Carter’s life of service has been a deep source of inspiration for me and my family. My husband and I named our son Carter in his honor, and we strive every day to ensure he embodies the same humility and dedication to helping others that President Carter has shown throughout his life. As we celebrate President Carter’s 100th birthday, I am reminded of the lasting impact his work has had not only in Georgia but around the world. His legacy of compassion and leadership will continue to guide future generations.”
Congressman Sanford Bishop (GA-02) said:
“Jimmy Carter embodies the best of our country’s ideals. He is a model of compassion, duty, and selfless service. Georgia is proud of this native son, a humble man from Plains, who has accomplished so much in his life. It has been a privilege to know and work with him for over 50 years. He is a devoted family man whose boundless love is reflected in the fruits of his lifetime of service and sacrifice on behalf of humankind.”
Congressman Buddy Carter (GA-01) said:
“Happy 100th birthday to my fellow Carter from Georgia, former President Jimmy Carter. In addition to serving our nation as Commander-in-Chief, Carter has dedicated his century on this earth to improving health, freedom, and democracy worldwide. He and his wife, Rosalynn, have had an enormous impact on the state of Georgia, and we are blessed for their lifetimes of leadership and service. I had the pleasure of working with his grandson, Jason Carter, in the Georgia State Senate, and know first-hand how dedicated he and his family are to making Georgia a better place to live, work, and learn.”
In addition to his political career, the resolution recognizes President Carter’s post-presidential humanitarian work, including receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts to promote human rights through the Carter Center and his long standing volunteerism with Habitat for Humanity.
In addition to the co-leads, the resolution has 29 original co-sponsors, including Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04), Rep. Barry Loudermilk (GA-11), Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-07), and Rep. Austin Scott (GA-08).
