ATLANTA — Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams highlighted a new report from the White House outlining how she delivered nearly double Georgia’s typical funding in the annual investment to help Georgia families afford energy costs. In total, Congresswoman Williams helped secure a record $134.9 million  for Georgia through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in the American Rescue Plan and annual appropriations. As Americans continue to deal with the impacts of the pandemic and high energy costs, Georgia families and seniors can use these investments to lower the costs of staying warm this winter, cover utilities and pay for energy repairs.

Local families who need assistance should contact the Office of Family Independence with the Georgia Department of Human Services at 1-877-423-4746.

“I grew up in a house with no indoor plumbing and no running water, so I know how powerful this investment is for Georgia’s families,” said Congresswoman Williams. “Temperatures in the Fifth District are forecast to drop below average lows and this record level of funding will help hardworking families stay safe and warm.”
