ATLANTACongresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) spent the day in Decatur, Georgia, on Monday, March 31, hosting events ranging from a community project funding check presentation to a legislative luncheon with City of Decatur elected officials.

Congresswoman Nikema Williams began the day at Decatur High School, where she presented a check for $401,000 in community project funding to support Communities In Schools of Atlanta’s Violence Prevention and Mental Health Initiative. She was joined by Communities In Schools of Atlanta CEO Frank Brown; City Schools of Decatur Superintendent Dr. Gyimah Whitaker; Decatur High School Assistant Principal Wesley Hatfield; and two Decatur High School students for a roundtable discussion on the benefits of Communities In Schools of Atlanta programming.

Following the check presentation, Congresswoman Nikema Williams visited the Congressman John Lewis statue in downtown Decatur.

Congresswoman Nikema Williams ran into Dakalb County Clerk of Courts Debra DeBerry while walking around downtown Decatur.

Congresswoman Nikema Williams then hosted City of Decatur elected officials for a legislative luncheon. She was joined by Mayor of the City of Decatur Tony Powers; Mayor Pro Tem Lesa Fronk; City Commissioner Cheryl Kortemeier; City Commissioner George Dusenbury; and City Manager Andrea Arnold. Legislative luncheons provide municipal leaders from Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District with a direct connection to the Congresswoman, opportunities to learn more about community project funding, discuss FIFA World Cup preparations, and share how her office can assist residents in their communities with federal agencies.

The legislative luncheon was hosted at Black-owned Platez Southern Kitchen & Cocktails.
