Congresswoman Nikema Williams Stands with Rep. LaMonica McIver Against Illegitimate Charges

Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) issued the following statement on Rep. LaMonica McIver being illegitimately charged for lawfully visiting an ICE detention center and fulfilling her constitutional duty of oversight:

“Congresswoman LaMonica McIver was illegitimately charged by the Department of Justice for upholding her oath of office by lawfully visiting an ICE detention center.

This is a blatant weaponization of the Department of Justice and an attempt to intimidate anyone willing to hold Trump and his administration accountable. We must recognize the extreme dictator-like precedent these actions set and the direct threat they hold to our Constitution.

I stand with Congresswoman McIver as we continue to fight Trump’s repeated abuses of power.”
