WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) released the following statement in response to the Republican Party’s attempt to weaponize the courts against the Fulton County Board of Commissioners for rightfully rejecting election conspiracy theorist nominees to the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections:

Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) said:

“Election conspiracy theorists, Julie Adams and Jason Frazier, nominated by the Fulton County Republican Party to the Board of Registrations and Elections, are unfit to serve on a board responsible for upholding free and fair elections. When these nominees were rightfully denied, our Fulton County Board of Commissioners (BOC) were simply doing the job they were elected to do.

Pulling from Trump’s playbook, the Republican Party followed up by weaponizing courts and attempting to jail members of the Fulton BOC. Fulton County Commissioners were not elected to rubber-stamp far-right conspiracy theorists. If the Fulton County Republican Party truly prioritized democracy and the integrity of our electoral process, they would accept the BOC’s decision and put forth nominees that can be trusted to safeguard our elections.

Local elected officials are the guardians of free and fair elections, not unelected partisan operatives. We will not remain silent in the face of a coordinated, nationwide campaign to rip power from the hands of voters.”
