Congresswoman Nikema Williams’ Statement on the Federal Court Decision on Alabama’s Congressional Maps

ATLANTA – Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) released the following statement on the federal court’s decision to block Alabama’s congressional maps.

Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) said: 

“The federal court’s decision today confirms what we all knew: these new congressional maps were deliberately drawn to dilute Black political power and are in violation of the Voting Rights Act.

Today’s ruling is a victory for justice and fair representation, but the fight is far from over. Across the country, we continue to see coordinated attacks on the fundamental right to vote and attempts to silence Black communities.

We will keep fighting to protect the Voting Rights Act, defend our democracy, and ensure every voter has an equal voice at the ballot box.”
