ATLANTA Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) issued the following statement on the mass shooting in Atlanta:

“Today’s shooting in Atlanta is yet another infuriating reminder that gun violence is a policy choice. I am past heartbreak–I am angry. For the victims, their families, the school children on lockdown today like my seven-year-old son — for our entire community.

“Laxed gun laws like the Republican-forced laws we have in Georgia allow bloodshed like this to happen, but the horrific reality of the situation is that nowhere in America are we safe from gun violence. Not the doctor’s office, not the supermarket, not even sending our babies to school.

“Gun safety legislation is urgent and is what we can do to save lives right now. Americans overwhelmingly want universal background checks and red flag laws, both of which can prevent gun deaths in our country. We must pass meaningful gun safety measures, without delay, to end the daily gun violence epidemic. Now is the time to act for safer communities everywhere.”
