Congresswoman Nikema Williams’ Statement on Trump Sending ICE to Hartsfield-Jackson

Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) released the following statement on President Trump’s decision to deploy ICE to Hartsfield-Jackson and airports around the country. 

“Under the guise of supporting TSA workers, Donald Trump is deploying ICE agents to Hartsfield-Jackson to intimidate travelers.

TSA officers—the people trained to keep travelers safe—are showing up to work without pay while Trump and Republicans repeatedly block legislation to fund TSA. All because they refuse to accept even basic reforms to keep ICE from terrorizing our communities. 

There’s a straightforward solution here, and it doesn’t involve Trump’s ICE standing in for a job they are not trained to do. 

It’s time for Republicans to join us and pass legislation to pay TSA workers now. The crisis in our airports right now is manufactured, and we could end it right now if Republicans would come to the table and do their jobs.”
