(WASHINGTON) – Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) issued the following statement regarding her vote against H.R. 7521, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act.

Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) said:

“Social media is an important part of our lives; and every day millions of people use TikTok for good reasons. I voted no on this legislation because it is only a piecemeal approach to solving a serious, industry-wide concern about protecting the personal data of social media users. Congress must pass comprehensive legislation to protect every user on every social platform–including TikTok. One bill targeting one social media platform is not a solution.”
