WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) released the following statement after her NO vote to Congressional resolution to honor the legacy of Charlie Kirk:

Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) said:

“Today’s resolution was not about condemning political violence or Charlie Kirk’s death, to which every reasonable member of Congress would vote yes. Today’s resolution was to honor his life and legacy and we have a responsibility to stand against the racist and hateful rhetoric he spread. Kirk suggested some of the most powerful Black women leaders lacked “brain processing power.” He suggested we made a “huge mistake” passing Civil Rights legislation. Again and again, he pushed a dangerous ideology that only fanned the flames of bigotry. For these reasons, I voted no on the Congressional resolution to honor his life and legacy.”
